The Australia – European Union (EU) Security and Defence Partnership (SDP) was signed by Australian Minister for Foreign Affairs Penny Wong, Australian Deputy Prime Minister Richard Marles, and High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice President of the European Commission Kaja Kallas, on 18 March 2026.
The SDP was announced by Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen on 24 March 2026.
The SDP will strengthen cooperation between Australia and the EU on global security challenges, including cyber and emerging technologies, economic security (including critical minerals), hybrid threats, maritime security, space and defence industry cooperation.
