2025 Australia-Indonesia Institute Indonesian Studies Awards

Nominations for the 2025 Australia-Indonesia Institute Indonesian Studies Awards have now closed.

The Australia-Indonesia Institute's (AII) Indonesian Studies Awards recognise the achievements and contributions of Indonesian language teachers, researchers, and leaders in Indonesian cultural outreach in Australia.

There are three award categories:

  • AII Language Teaching Award (up to three recipients per year): recognises excellence in Indonesian language teaching, at any level
  • AII Studies and Cultural Leadership Award (up to three recipients per year): recognises excellence in study or research at any level and across any discipline, or in cultural education and outreach, which has contributed to an increased understanding of Indonesia among Australians
  • AII Distinguished Service Award (one recipient per year): recognises dedicated service in Indonesian Studies or teaching and/or cultural education and outreach for more than 25 years, which has resulted in a substantial increase in Australians' understanding of Indonesian language and culture.

Each award recipient will receive a certificate, trophy and gift. The award will be presented at a formal ceremony in Canberra. Travel costs (economy class domestic flights and airport transfers) and accommodation will be provided.

Selection panel

A suitably qualified selection panel will assess applications and make decisions regarding the granting of AII Indonesian Studies Awards.

The selection panel will compromise representatives from the AII Board and AII Secretariat.

We expect applicants will receive notification of the outcome of their nomination during November 2025.

2024 recipients

The seven award winners of the 2024 Australia-Indonesia Institute Indonesian Studies Awards were announced at the NAILA (National Australia Indonesia Language Association) Award ceremony in Canberra on 7 December 2024.
