The Australia-Indonesia Youth Exchange Program (AIYEP), established in 1982, links Australian and Indonesian youth (aged 21-25) through social, professional, and cultural exchange. Delivered in partnership with the Indonesian Ministry of Youth and Sport, AIYEP aims to foster mutual understanding and increase cultural literacy and capability.
Program delegates grow their intercultural skills and international networks through work placements, language training, academic workshops and cultural activities. Beginning with five weeks of online learning and networking, delegates complete their Global Competence Certificate and get to know one another before undertaking immersion programs in each country.
In 2025 the 21 Indonesian AIYEP delegates will spend five weeks in Australia. They will be hosted in Melbourne, and will travel to Sydney as part of their visit. The 21 Australian delegates will join them in Melbourne to prepare together for the Indonesia phase of the program. The Indonesia phase begins with orientation in Jakarta before the Australian delegates travel to a host community to get a firsthand experience of living in Indonesia.
Working collaboratively on contemporary issues impacting local communities, the delegates will come together in Indonesia at a Youth Summit to explore sustainable solutions.
AIYEP is currently delivered by Value Learning. For more information, visit the Australia-Indonesia Youth Exchange Program website.
