Category
Development

Research organisations are invited to submit proposals for Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) Research Awards under the Water for Women Fund. Proposals should be lodged by 17:00 hrs (Canberra time), 27 February 2018.

The Water for Women Fund commenced on 14 December 2017. It is a flagship program in Australia's engagement in WASH and is part of Australia's commitment to the High Level Panel on Water. The Fund will invest AUD $110.6 million over five years to December 2022 to improve the health, gender equality and well-being of Asian and Pacific communities through inclusive, sustainable WASH projects.

Two types of proposals for WASH Research Awards will be sought under the Fund:

  • WASH sector research addressing key knowledge gaps (Type One award)
  • Research closely linked to Civil Society Organisation (CSO) implementation and outcomes of the Water for Women Fund (Type Two award)

This call for proposals will only be for Type Two awards. It allows for collaboration between research organisations (ROs) and CSOs selected to implement projects under the Water for Women Fund – at a time when CSOs are finalising their project design documents. A separate call for Type One awards will be made in 2018.

Proposals must be submitted online at: https://waterforwomen.smartygrants.com.au/WASHResearchAwards

Research organisations are expected to submit a separate application for each proposal. A WASH Research Awards Guidelines document is available below. It includes guidance on process and eligibility. In addition to the guidelines document, the Water for Women Fund Investment Design Document should inform the development of proposals.

The Water for Women Fund Coordinator will hold one applicant briefing for interested organisations at 2.00 pm to 3.00 pm, Thursday, 21 December 2017 at the GHD office in Canberra, Level 7, 16 Marcus Clarke Street, and from the GHD office in Melbourne, Level 8, 180 Lonsdale St. The briefing will be conducted via Webex which enables all parties to view presentation slides and connect to discussions. RSVP for attendance at this briefing is due via email to waterforwomen@ghd.com by COB Wednesday 20 December 2017. See Attachment A, Section A.1.2 of the WASH Research Awards Guidelines document for more details.
