Australia's International Development Policy recognises climate change as a primary concern for our Indo‑Pacific partners, and the single greatest threat to the livelihoods, security and well‑being of Pacific peoples. The Australian Government is committed to taking ambitious action on climate change and working closely with our neighbours to support adaptation and mitigation efforts.
The International Development Policy commits to half of all new bilateral and regional investments valued at more than $3 million incorporating a climate change objective by 2024-25, with a goal of reaching 80 per cent by 2028–29.
To meet this target, it is expected that all new in-scope programs consider inclusion of a climate change objective – either primary or secondary.
This Good Practice Note assists DFAT's implementing partners to understand the Australian Government's commitments on climate action and ensure climate change considerations (risks and opportunities) are integrated into development programs.
It explains key concepts and terms and provides a step-by-step checklist on how to integrate climate considerations.
