Director Tasmania State Office, Dr Timothy Ault
Timothy Ault commenced as Director of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade's Tasmania State Office in July 2019. He is responsible for managing the DFAT's engagement with a diverse range of stakeholders in Tasmania, including the Tasmanian government, business, international organisations, academia and the arts.
Dr Ault has served the Australian Government overseas in the Solomon Islands, Germany, Indonesia and Chile. In Canberra, he has worked mainly in the areas of trade and economics, and human rights. He speaks Spanish and German.
Dr Ault grew up in Tasmania and studied marine, freshwater and Antarctic biology at UTAS, followed by a PhD in coral reef fish ecology at the University of Queensland. Prior to joining DFAT, he worked as a marine biologist at the Australian Water Quality Centre in Adelaide.
