Director Northern Territory Office, Ms Sandra Henderson
Sandra Henderson commenced as Director of the DFAT Northern Territory Office in January 2020. She is responsible for managing the Department’s engagement with its stakeholders in the Northern Territory across government, business, academia, and civil society.
A career diplomat, Sandra has served overseas as Deputy Consul-General at the Australian Consulate-General, Noumea (2016-2017), Policy Advisor to the Special Coordinator, Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands, Honiara (RAMSI, 2009-2010), and Second Secretary at the Australian Embassy in Hanoi, Vietnam (2002-05). She has also worked on short-term missions as team leader for the AusMAT Dengue Response to Solomon Islands (2013), program manager for the RAMSI Law and Justice Program, Solomon Islands (2011-12), and as a civilian peace monitor on the island of Bougainville, Papua New Guinea (2000). In Canberra she has worked in a number of areas across the foreign, trade and development portfolio including trade advocacy, Australia-EU FTA negotiations, human rights, and humanitarian response management.
Sandra holds a Bachelor of Arts (Modern Asian Studies with Honours) from Griffith University, a Graduate Diploma of Arts (Foreign Affairs and Trade) from Monash University and a Master of Arts (International Relations) from Deakin University.
