About us
The Australia-ASEAN Council was established by the Australian Government in 2015 to strengthen Australia’s engagement with the region. The Council supported enhanced community and institutional connections between Australia and Southeast Asia through cultural initiatives, grants, and exchange programs.
In 2024, at the ASEAN-Australia Special Summit to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of ASEAN-Australia Dialogue Relations, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese announced the establishment of the ASEAN-Australia Centre.
The Centre will build on the legacy of the Australia-ASEAN Council and the Government’s ongoing commitment to deepen engagement with Southeast Asia.
The 2023-24 Australia-ASEAN Council grants round was the final grants round for the Centre.
