Australia-ASEAN Muslim Exchange Program (AAMEP)

The Australia-ASEAN Muslim Exchange Program provides the opportunity for emerging Muslim leaders in Australia and from ASEAN countries to participate in a community-based program of dialogue, intellectual and cultural exchange.

Delegates will experience a program reflecting the diversity of multicultural Australia and Muslim communities in Southeast Asia. Emerging community leaders such as individuals involved in non-government organisations, charities, mosques, Islamic schools, universities, as well as authors, artists, and academics are encouraged to apply.

The AAMEP draws on an 18-year history of the Australia-Malaysia, Australia-Thailand and the Australia-Indonesia Muslim Exchange Programs. These programs are unique in their focus on building friendship and understanding between the Muslim communities of Australia and ASEAN.

AAMEP is delivered by Australia Indonesia Connections.

AAMEP 2019

In 2019, the pilot program saw five Australian delegates travel to Thailand and Malaysia in July to participate in an intensive 10 day program. Six delegates representing three ASEAN countries (Thailand, Malaysia and the Philippines) in turn travelled to Australia in September to also undertake a program of events in Sydney, Canberra and Melbourne.
