The Australia-ASEAN Muslim Exchange Program provided emerging Muslim leaders in Australia and ASEAN countries with the opportunity to participate in a community-based program of dialogue, intellectual and cultural exchange.

The program was designed to reflect the diversity of multicultural Australia and Muslim communities in Southeast Asia. Delegates were emerging community leaders, involved in non-government organisations, charities, mosques, Islamic schools, universities, as well as authors, artists, and academics.

The AAMEP built upon an 18-year history of the Australia-Malaysia, Australia-Thailand and the Australia-Indonesia Muslim Exchange Programs. These programs are unique in their focus on building friendship and understanding between the Muslim communities of Australia and ASEAN.
