We listen. We partner. We protect.

Australia helped create the United Nations. We are ready to help secure its future.

Australia has a proud history of walking alongside nations of all sizes, as a reliable partner for peace. We know a safer world is one governed by rules, not by power and force alone  –  where all countries have the freedom to decide their own future. That is why Australia is seeking a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council for 2029–2030.

A message from the Prime Minister

“No nation can secure its future alone.”

More than 80 years ago, this belief inspired Australia to help found the United Nations. It guides us still.

Australia is a nation built on fairness and opportunity, that promotes equality and respect for all people. These values guide our engagement with the world.

Australia seeks a seat on the UN Security Council for 2029–2030 to help prevent conflict, protect civilians, uphold the UN Charter and strengthen the institutions that sustain peace.

We know a safer world is one governed by rules, not by power and force alone; where the sovereignty of every nation is respected; and where the United Nations not only reduces the risk of war, but creates the conditions for lasting peace.
