General Review of ChAFTA 2026

During Prime Minister Albanese's visit to China in July 2025, Australia and China signed a Memorandum of Understanding on reviewing ChAFTA. Review provisions are standard, built-in features of many Free Trade Agreements, including ChAFTA.

On 7 November 2026, the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) invited submissions from stakeholders to inform the General Review. Submissions closed on 31 March 2026, and the following submissions were received. Contributors have given their consent to be identified and/or for their submissions to be published.
