Australia has a strong and longstanding relationship with Samoa.

Australia has a long history of supporting enhanced skills and training for Pacific media through the Pacific Media Assistance Scheme (PACMAS).

The Papua New Guinea–Australia partnership is dynamic, multi-faceted and comprehensive. Our partnership goes beyond mere words – we are physically connected through our shared maritime border and joined through our rich cultures and history.

As close neighbours, New Caledonia and Australia share a special relationship, based on our longstanding historical friendship, indigenous linkages, our considerable mineral wealth, and our unique biodiversity and marine reserves.

On 4 May 2021, Australia opened a diplomatic mission in French Polynesia, highlighting the growing importance of our bilateral relationship with this autonomous French territory that covers more than 5.3 million square kilometres.

Australia and Fiji share a strong and enduring bilateral relationship underpinned by the Fiji-Australia Vuvale Partnership signed in October 2023, building on the previous partnership signed in 2019. It is a broad-ranging and comprehensive partnership supporting deeper people-to-people, economic and security links.

Australia's people-to-people connections with our Pacific family are as important as ever, as we work together to respond to the pandemic’s impacts. Australia is working with Pacific partners to reinforce people-to-people links across our region through expanded sports, education, media, cultural and church partnerships.

Australia is committed to supporting Pacific Island Countries build resilience to their security challenges, as articulated in the 2018 Boe Declaration on Regional Security.

As a member of the Pacific family, Australia shares the responsibilities and challenges of supporting the region's prosperity. The Pacific is our home, and it is in our interests to foster a strong, stable and successful region that enables our economies to grow and peoples to prosper.

Australia is committed to working in partnership with the Government of Vanuatu to meet the needs and aspirations of its people to build resilience to climate change and disaster events.
