Australia will establish a new Centre for Australia-India Relations to help foster new ties and support our expanding exchange and cooperation with India.

The Australia India Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, announced in 2020, underpins our relationship, and our connections continue to grow and expand as both countries invest in its future.

Australia has announced a new suite of initiatives to continue to bolster our economic, science, cyber, people-to-people and environmental ties with India.

The Australian Government is investing over $280 million to boost cooperation with India, to further grow our economic relationship and support jobs and businesses in both countries.

Australia's Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment joined Indian and Japanese counterparts to review progress of the trilateral Supply Chain Resilience Initiative and to endorse the Initiative’s work program for 2022.

Indian diaspora communities are active across all aspects of Australian life, including in business, politics, the judiciary, government, civil society, academia, science, the arts and sport.

An India Economic Strategy to 2035: Navigating from Potential to Delivery (IES) was presented as an independent report to the Australian Government in 2018 as a roadmap to deepen economic integration with India. The IES persuasively argued that no country would offer more growth opportunities for Australian businesses than India over the coming decades.

Mr. Dan Tehan, Australia’s Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment, Mr. Piyush Goyal, India’s Minister for Commerce and Industry, and Mr. Hagiuda Koichi, Japan’s Minister for Economy, Trade and Industry held a Ministerial videoconference on 15 March 2022.

The Government is further strengthening our ties with India, one of Australia’s most important partners in the Indo-Pacific region. A series of new initiatives to support our education, community, tourism and investment links will add to our growing bilateral relationship, which was elevated to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2020.

Australia will strengthen its tourism links with India to further increase visitor numbers and support local jobs and business by growing one of its largest and most valuable tourist markets.
