Australia has elevated its partnership with Tuvalu through our historic Australia-Tuvalu Falepili Union treaty. This is our response to a request from Tuvalu to safeguard the future of Tuvaluans as the impacts of climate change worsen. The Falepili Union comprises a treaty and commitments articulated in a joint statement.

Australia’s partnership with Tonga is anchored in shared values, respect, and mutual benefit. The Tongan values of Feveitokai’aki (sharing and cooperating), Falala’anga (trust), and Fefaka’apa’apa’aki (mutual respect) characterise and guide our partnership.

Australian development cooperation to Tokelau aligns closely with the Joint Commitment for Development between New Zealand and Tokelau. Australia has directed the majority of its aid to the Tokelau International Trust Fund. 

Strong regional organisations contribute to the stability of the Pacific region – Pillars 1 (Health Security), 2 (Stability) and 3 (Economic Recovery) of Partnerships for Recovery: Australia's COVID-19 Development Response. A stable, secure, resilient and prosperous Pacific region is in Australia's national interest. Australia's diplomatic engagement through regional organisations complements our bilateral relationships in the Pacific.

Investing in education outcomes for all children and youth across the Pacific has been a long-standing objective of Australia's development program. In the Pacific, Australia's bilateral and multilateral investments have a strong focus on basic education, including early literacy and numeracy development. 

Australia and Solomon Islands are strong security, development and economic partners and we shaping our efforts to respond to Solomon Islands priorities. Since the withdrawal of RAMSI in 2017, Australia has provided over $800 million through our development program, in the areas of justice, health, education, agriculture, governance, gender, and security.

Australia's aid program in the North Pacific focusses on the Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI) and the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM).

Australia’s development cooperation program in Palau supports Palau’s priorities, including tax reform, digitisation of the health and agricultural sector, tertiary education and training, aviation connectivity, cyber security, renewable energy, gender equality, removal of UXOs and community, media and sports projects.
