Education is the flagship of Australia's aid program in Myanmar. Our investments are enhancing human development by improving access to quality education, through support to schools, teacher training and scholarships. Our investments recognise that addressing barriers to quality education helps to build a peaceful and prosperous society and contributes to Myanmar's democratic transition.

Development assistance in Latin America and the Caribbean

Australian ODA in the Maldives will focus on human development, through scholarships.

Australia's support to Bhutan focuses on developing human resource capacity, building people-to-people linkages and strengthening tertiary institutions. Education is the central pillar of the bilateral aid program.

Australia's bilateral relationship with Bangladesh continues to grow. Two-way trade exceeded $2.3 billion in 2016-17 on the back of sustained growth in the Bangladesh economy. 

Prior to the February 2021 military coup, Myanmar had been navigating multiple complex transitions: from military rule to a democratic government, from a closed to an open market economy and from conflict to peace. The coup and its aftermath has reversed many of the gains made and significantly amplified Myanmar's humanitarian and development challenges.

Australia and Cambodia are close neighbours, long-standing strategic partners and friends.
