People connections with Southeast Asia
The Australian Government has established cultural councils, internships, scholarships and short courses, mounted awareness raising public diplomacy campaigns and facilitated Australians volunteering abroad, all measures designed to strengthen and celebrate our people-to-people connections in Southeast Asia.
The AAC's mission is to increase knowledge and promote Australia's interests in Southeast Asia by initiating and supporting activities to enhance understanding and links between people and institutions in Australia and 10 countries: Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.

The AII, along with the Australia-ASEAN Council, are the two Foundations, Councils and Institutes for the Southeast Asian region.
