We reiterate our support to the United Nations African Institute for the Prevention of Crime and the Treatment of Offenders, and were pleased to engage constructively in the course of negotiations.

We take this opportunity to reaffirm our strong support for this resolution, and we welcome the pen holder’s choice to focus on eliminating violence against all women and girls in the digital environment this year.

We are deeply concerned by the ongoing global forced displacement crisis, which now affects over 120 million people worldwide.

Australia remains gravely concerned about the human rights and humanitarian situation in Syria, with over 16 million people in Syria in need of humanitarian assistance, including almost 7.5 million children.

This resolution aims to reflect the current human rights situation in Iran without prejudice.

Chair, this resolution calls upon member states to establish a moratorium on executions, with a view to abolishing the death penalty. It does not decide or demand that member states do this. It simply calls upon member states to establish a moratorium.

Australia welcomes the consensus adoption of the Convention Against Cybercrime, recognising the dedication and efforts of all delegations throughout the extensive negotiations and consultations that have gone into shaping the Convention.
