Australia will work with the PNG Government to create more opportunities for our people to travel in both directions – including to work and do business – and we will foster links between our peoples through a range of institutional partnerships, education and cultural exchanges, and sport.

Australia's investment in people and communities in PNG will support stronger outcomes in education, while promoting better health and nutrition, improved outcomes for women and people with disabilities, and increased resilience, including in the face of a changing climate.

Australia continues to support PNG's security, policing and law and justice sectors, with longstanding partnerships between our defence and police forces, government agencies, and through our development program.

Our economic assistance is designed to help PNG better convert its natural endowments into sustained broad-based growth, and create a more diversified economy, while maintaining economic stability.

The Australian Government, through the Australia PNG Economic Partnership, has commissioned this landmark study into PNG’s micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and informal sector. 

Australia was pleased to join the US and a range of international partners in endorsing this statement on 25 September 2024 in New York.

Australia remains committed to working with Papua New Guinea (PNG) on Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET). In partnership with the Department of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology, commissioned an independent strategic review to assess the effectiveness of DFAT’s investments in TVET in PNG. 

The Cable Connectivity and Resilience Centre (the Centre) is an Australian Government initiative designed to work with governments and industry across the Indo-Pacific to support the effective development and management of undersea telecommunications cables.

The Australia–Papua New Guinea Development Partnership Plan 2024—2029 (DPP) translates into action the development priorities Australia shares with PNG. The DPP responds to objectives articulated through the Comprehensive Strategic and Economic Partnership and the Bilateral Security Agreement.
