Australia will provide $5 million in emergency relief to help the people of the Philippines recover from the devastation caused by Super Typhoon Rai, known locally as Typhoon Odette.

Australia’s Basic Education Sector Transformation (BEST) Program in the Philippines (2010-2019) contributed to the most significant education reforms of the Philippine Department of Education (DepEd) in decades.

An Independent Progress Review (IPR) was commissioned to assess the performance of the Coalitions for Change Program (Phase 2) against its objectives and the program’s continuing relevance including its operational arrangements, in the context of the Philippines’ advanced middle-income status and the COVID-19 pandemic. 

The Australian Minister for Foreign Affairs and Minister for Women, and Australian Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment, and the Philippine Secretary of Foreign Affairs, and Philippine Secretary of Trade and Industry, held the fifth Philippines-Australia Ministerial Meeting on 23 August 2021, amidst the global crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Australia's Minister for International Development and the Pacific will visit Papua New Guinea and the Philippines from 4 to 9 July.

The PCTP-RAPID Program was developed and implemented from 2012 to 2019, and supported the post-disaster recovery planning of the most vulnerable provinces (5), cities (3) and municipalities (16) affected by Tropical Storm Washi (2011) in Northern Mindanao Region, Typhoon Bopha (2012) in Davao Region, and Super Typhoon Haiyan (2013) in Eastern Visayas Region. 

This review was commissioned to assess the effectiveness of Australia’s support for peace in Muslim Mindanao under the Peacebuilding in Conflict-Affected Mindanao investment and its ongoing appropriateness in the current political context.
