Human rights

We commend the Government of Nauru for implementing several legal and policy reforms to protect the rights of women and children and people with disabilities since its last UPR.

Australia welcomes the Government of Sao Tome and Principe’s ratification of several United Nations Human Rights Conventions since its last UPR, including the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights, the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination.

Australia welcomes Georgia’s efforts to advance human rights since its last UPR appearance, especially the steps taken to improve prison conditions and police training for the management of peaceful protests.

Australia congratulates Myanmar on its recent elections and calls for further concrete action to respond to the human rights situation in Myanmar.

Australia acknowledges Rwanda’s leadership role and commitment to regional peacekeeping.

Australia welcomes the human rights reforms Oman has implemented since its last Universal Periodic Review that have enabled significant improvements in women’s workforce participation.

Australia welcomes Austria's continued commitment to human rights and commends its leadership to promote gender equality and reduce violence against women.

We appreciate the Government of Nepal’s commitment to continue to build on Nepal’s Constitution of 2015 to realise the protection and promotion of human rights and to implement previously accepted recommendations of the Universal Periodic Review.

Australia acknowledges Saint Lucia’s progress. We remain concerned at excessive use of force by police, and we urge the government to develop and introduce domestic violence legislation to provide greater protection to women and girls.
