Summary of publication
The Vaccine Access and Health Security Initiative (VAHSI) was an emergency response program to support countries in the Pacific and Southeast Asia in their response to the COVID-19 pandemic so that their economies can reopen, contributing to economic recovery, national wellbeing and regional stability. The Australian Government committed a total of $642.4 million to this effort through VAHSI and co-programmed support delivered through bilateral programs and as part of Australia’s contribution to the Quad Vaccine Partnership. The strategic intent of the Initiative was to support equitable and inclusive access to and delivery of safe and effective vaccines for the region, tailored to need and drawing on the best Australian expertise. The program was operational from 2020 to 2024.
In June 2024, DFAT commissioned an independent evaluation of VAHSI investments through the Specialist Health Service. The attachments below include the evaluation report, and the management response.
