Understanding Australia’s Indian Communities: A Statistical Snapshot

Australia’s Indian communities have grown in both size and complexity over the past two decades, emerging as some of our most vibrant and dynamic communities. Australia’s Indian communities are the fastest growing among foreign born migrants and they are characterised by young, highly educated and civically engaged people who are contributing to Australia every day. Our people-to-people links underpin our bilateral relations with India.

Developed by the University of Queensland, the report Understanding Australia’s Indian Communities: A Statistical Snapshot provides a foundation to better understand Australia’s Indian communities, allowing for better engagement and more impactful policy recommendations.

The report builds on our 2022 report, Australia’s Indian Diaspora: A National Asset, and supports our commitments under our Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP) and our A New Roadmap for Australia's Economic Engagement with India.
