2026 New Colombo Plan Alumni Representative profiles

The New Colombo Plan Alumni Representative Program supports alumni from each participating Australian university, including First Nations Alumni Representatives, to promote the New Colombo Plan and the value of study, long-term immersive experiences, and professional experiences in the Indo-Pacific. This aligns with the Australian Government's priorities in building Asia capability and literacy.  


National First Nations Alumni Representative

Ian McCowan

Sian McCowan

University: Griffith University

Sian McCowan is a proud Biripi and Dunghutti woman, UNICEF Australia Young Ambassador for Queensland, and 2024 NCP scholar. Through the NCP, she lived in the Cook Islands, interning at the Ministry of Internal Affairs to explore Indigenous and community-led approaches to justice. Her work focused on gender-based violence policy, foster care reform, and family protection initiatives, strengthening collaboration between government and counselling services.

A Griffith University graduate in Psychological Science and Criminology and Criminal Justice, Sian is passionate about advancing social inclusion and wellbeing across the Indo-Pacific. She currently works as a case manager in Nauru, supporting refugees through trauma-informed practice and community development. Sian has also contributed to education and mental health projects in Nepal and Sri Lanka and volunteered with organisations including Punanga Tauturu Inc., Youth Off the Streets, and PCYC Zillmere.

Aimee Griffiths is a Vietnamese Australian student in her final year of a double degree in Law and Politics, Philosophy and Economics at the Australian National University. Through the NCP Mobility Program Aimee undertook a 6-week internship at a Cambodian civil society organisation through the Law and Development Clinic. There, she conducted research and interviews on Cambodia's draft data protection laws, examining their implications for digital rights, development, and legal harmonisation within ASEAN. This experience deepened her interest in digital technology policy and rights, particularly in the role and implications of public–private partnerships in shaping digital infrastructure and governance.

Drawing on her Vietnamese upbringing and Australian education, Aimee is committed to fostering meaningful connections across the Indo-Pacific. She hopes to continue encouraging collaboration, curiosity, and shared learning between Australia and the region.

James is studying a Bachelor of Science in Psychology at the University of Canberra with plans to undertake Honours. He is passionate about psychology, particularly how it can be applied to improve wellbeing and foster meaningful connections between people.

James undertook the NCP Mobility Program to India in 2025, working with rural and Indigenous communities in the Southern state of Karnataka. During this experience, he collaborated closely with public health workers to better understand community health needs and cross-cultural approaches to care. In addition to his studies, he also works within the Global Learning team at the University of Canberra, supporting initiatives that promote international education and student mobility. Through these experiences, James is deeply committed to cross-cultural engagement and the role of psychology in global contexts.

This experience deepened her understanding of cross-cultural learning and strengthened her commitment to inclusive education.

Dikschya aspires to work internationally as an educator, supporting the NCP's vision of fostering mutual understanding and lasting connections between Australia and the Indo-Pacific region.

Rose Chamberlain is a Bachelor of Science student at Charles Sturt University. She is passionate about environmental conservation. Growing up in regional New South Wales and undertaking her university program online, Rose dreamed of expanding her education and field experience through travel. She lived and studied in Palau as part of the NCP Scholarship Program, where she immersed herself in local culture while contributing to reforestation, mangrove research, and environmental education.

Currently volunteering with the Palau Animal Welfare Society, Rose combines her love for animals with public outreach, fundraising, and hands-on clinic support. Rose has a deep appreciation for the Indo-Pacific region and hopes to build a career restoring ecosystems and strengthening connections between people, animals, and the environment.

Hadiqa Khan is a Bachelor of Information Technology (majoring in Information Systems and Business Analysis) graduate from Macquarie University. In 2025, Hadiqa travelled to Jakarta, Indonesia, to undertake an internship as part of the NCP Mobility Program.

This enriching experience gave Hadiqa the opportunity to work on an impactful global project at Opsigo Asia in a cross-cultural environment while immersing herself into Indonesia's thriving technology landscape. This experience strengthened her career and personal growth, transforming her into a globally minded professional ready to make an impact across information technology and business sectors in an international context. She currently works in Deloitte's Enterprise Technology and Performance team.

In 2024 and 2025, Rabia undertook internships in Cambodia and Indonesia as part of the NCP Scholarship Program. After these experiences, Rabia developed an interest in how regional foreign policy impacts the operation of international and domestic law in the Indo-Pacific region.

Throughout her scholarship, Rabia enjoyed exploring the diverse cultures and belief systems that shape the region and gained an appreciation of the ways that language has the power to transform experiences.

Paige is studying a Bachelor of Biomedical Science at the University of Newcastle. She is passionate about the intersection of neuroscience, behaviour, and physiology, and seeks to contribute to growing research on the gut-brain axis, addiction, and eating behaviour.

In 2025, Paige studied at Tokyo Metropolitan University in Tokyo, Japan through the NCP Mobility Program. While there, she completed seven subjects across biomedical and health sciences, achieving top grades, and developing a deeper understanding of the global context of health research. 

During her time in Japan, Paige was actively involved in the international student community, fostering connection and collaboration across cultures. Drawing on both her scientific training and lived experience, she hopes to pursue a career that combines research, education, and advocacy, contributing to improved mental health and wellbeing outcomes across the Indo-Pacific region.


Ella Whan

Ella Whan is a Bachelor of Arts (Politics) and Bachelor of Laws student at the University of Sydney. She was a 2024 NCP scholar and spent 16-months in Malaysia and Taiwan. During her scholarship, Ella completed an exchange semester at Universiti Malaya in Kuala Lumpur, focusing on Southeast Asian politics and foreign policy. She undertook internships with Sisters in Islam, researching women's rights within the framework of Islam, and with Axiata Digital Analytics as a legal intern. 

In 2024, Ella represented Australia as a panelist at Malaysia's iFuture Forum on Artificial Intelligence-driven leadership. Following her time in Kuala Lumpur, she relocated to Taipei, where she completed 4-months of intensive Mandarin study and an internship with Trade and Investment Queensland. In her free time, she enjoys playing Gaelic Football, having played for both Malaysia and Taiwan during her NCP experience.

Shahim undertook an NCP Mobility Program to Tokyo, Japan. This experience provided Shahim with valuable insights into Japan's culture and life, and an opportunity to appreciate its unique social and cultural values. It also enhanced his understanding of how to navigate life in an increasingly globalised world.

As an NCP Alumni Representative, Shahim hopes to help other students broaden their global perspectives and pursue meaningful exchange opportunities. Shahim aspires to travel, live, and work abroad after completing his university studies.

Hillary is in her final year of Commerce and Information Systems studies at the University of New South Wales (UNSW). A 2022 NCP scholar, Hillary undertook studies, language learning, and internships in the Republic of Korea, Vietnam and Japan for a period of over 18-months. During this time, she explored the intersection of globalisation and sustainability and supported marginalised communities.

Throughout her NCP journey, Hillary made lifelong relationships and gained a new appreciation of diverse cultures in the region. She continues to engage in the region and went on a study tour to China, engaging with leading Chinese employers to examine innovation in digital ecosystems across the region.

Hillary is a passionate advocate for cross-cultural engagement and regional collaboration. She is also passionate about the transformative impact of NCP and is eager to give back by uplifting peers and fostering lasting regional connections in the diverse communities of UNSW.

Lakshya Verma is a Bachelor of Aviation Management and Commerce graduate from the University of New South Wales (UNSW). As part of the NCP Mobility Program, he undertook a consulting practicum focused on promoting sustainability awareness and advancing circular economy practices in Thailand. This experience strengthened his cross-cultural capability, professional networks, and passion for Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) focused innovation, particularly within the hard-to-abate aviation sector.

Upon graduating, Lakshya joined the UNSW Business School's Career Accelerator team, supporting the experiential learning programs that shaped his own university experience, with a focus on graduate employability and global readiness. He also participated in the 2025 Westpac Asian Exchange Leadership Residential in Singapore through the NCP.

As a 2026 NCP Alumni Representative, Lakshya aims to strengthen Asia capability by fostering collaboration among stakeholders and promoting the transformative value of international mobility.

Madeleine McWilliam is studying a Bachelor of Communications at the University of Technology Sydney, majoring in Journalism and Social and Political Science. In 2023, she undertook the NCP Mobility Program and interned with Freedom Film Network in Malaysia, supporting community filmmaking for social change. In 2024, she was awarded the NCP Scholarship and undertook Korean language study and exchange at Korea University, and a policy research internship with the CPG Institute in Bangkok.

Madeleine also served as a youth delegate at the inaugural Korea–Australia Foundation Youth Forum. Madeleine specialises in the arts and culture sector, having worked across leading cultural institutions and community media, including the Sydney Opera House, Australian Chamber Orchestra, FBi Radio, and 2SER, where she is currently a research intern. She aims to strengthen Australia's engagement with the Indo-Pacific through cross-cultural exchange in the arts, media, and policy.

Vedant is a Bachelor of Civil Engineering (Honours) graduate from the University of Technology Sydney. His NCP journey began in 2024, undertaking the Mobility Program in Penang, Malaysia, followed by a 6-month exchange to Shanghai, China, where he studied the Mandarin language.

His broader Asia experiences span Vietnam, Singapore and Thailand, where he has contributed to multiple volunteering, leadership and sustainability initiatives. These include volunteering as a teacher in Vietnam, participating in the 2025 Westpac Asian Exchange Leadership Residential in Singapore, and leading a river clean-up team in Bangkok as part of the University Scholars Leadership Symposium held at the United Nations Conference Centre.

Vedant views Mandarin as a vital skill for building meaningful connections, unlocking opportunities and collaboration across the Indo-Pacific and beyond. He is passionate about sustainability, cross-cultural exchange, and humanitarian impact, and aspires to be an Asia capable leader dedicated to strengthening Australia's regional engagement.

Samantha Shepherd is an Australian educator studying a Bachelor of Primary Education (Honours) at the University of Wollongong. In 2023, she participated in two short-term NCP Mobility Programs to Nepal and Thailand, exploring culturally responsive teaching and linguistic diversity in classrooms.

These experiences led to Samantha's 10-month NCP fellowship in Bhutan in 2024, where she studied at Paro College of Education and completed teaching internships in early childhood and rural primary school settings. Her honours research examines how immersive cultural experiences reshape teaching philosophy, practices, and professional identity.

Recognised online for sharing her appreciation of Bhutanese culture, Samantha advocates for holistic, student centred education inspired by Bhutan's Gross National Happiness philosophy. She remains deeply connected to the Bhutanese community in Australia and, as a 2026 NCP Alumni Representative, actively fosters cultural exchange while encouraging future scholars to explore less frequented host locations and engage meaningfully across the Indo-Pacific.

Ebony is studying a Bachelor of Laws and International Studies (International Relations and Asian Studies) at Western Sydney University. As a 2024 NCP scholar to Japan, Ebony undertook intensive Japanese language training, studied for two semesters at Chuo University, and completed internships with Mitsubishi Corporation and Investment NSW in Tokyo. These experiences deepened her interest in international commercial law and cross-border trade.

On returning to Australia, Ebony joined global law firm Ashurst, where she is continuing to build her expertise in supporting Japanese investors navigate Australia's business and legal landscape. She is passionate about the intersection of law and policy in facilitating trade between Japan and Australia. Mariam Rkein is a Bachelor of Laws graduate from Charles Darwin University, where she was awarded the Attorney-General's medal for outstanding academic achievement. Having completed her practical legal training at the College of Law, she looks forward to being admitted to the bar.

As part of an NCP Mobility Program to Jakarta, Indonesia, Mariam worked on transnational organised crime and engaged with Indonesia's Supreme Court, Attorney General's Office, and Anti-Corruption Commission to explore legal and enforcement strategies across the region.

Mariam participated in policy briefings on corruption, judicial integrity, and maritime security, and examined cross-border challenges including drug trafficking, human smuggling, and illegal wildlife trade. Mariam is passionate about justice, governance, and regional cooperation across the Indo-Pacific.

Joshua is studying a Doctor of Medicine at Griffith University. In 2024 he was awarded the NCP Scholarship Program and Taiwan fellowship. He undertook traditional Chinese language training at National Cheng Kung University, before attending National Taiwan university. In Taiwan, Joshua participated in university-level and international youth forums addressing collaboration on social, political, cultural, and health issues.

Joshua also joined multiple field visits to regional Taiwanese schools and health clinics, discovering roles of lifestyle exposures and cross-culture communication affecting health outcomes. These experiences strengthened his commitment to practising patient-centred healthcare in medicine. As a 2026 NCP Alumni Representative, he is committed to championing students to recognise the value of international exchange, creating opportunities to practise tertiary-level skills in new frontier industries.

Matthew is an Honours student at Griffith University researching the role of Australia's multiculturalism and diasporas in foreign policy, and its influence on regional youth perceptions and relations. In 2024, Matthew received an NCP mobility grant to participate in a study tour in Fiji, where he explored the role of local social enterprises and Fiji's progress on the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

In 2025, Matthew completed a law professional practicum program in Indonesia under the NCP Mobility Program. He undertook Bahasa Indonesia classes, Indonesian law seminars, and an internship with the Foreign Policy Community of Indonesia. The experience developed his understanding of Indonesian foreign policy perspectives, particularly youth perceptions. As a 2026 NCP Alumni Representative, Matthew aims to encourage others to develop deeper Indo-Pacific knowledge, capability, and connections.

Maita, born and raised on Gimuy Walaburra Yidinji Country, is studying a Bachelor of Arts (majoring in Political Science and International Relations and Sociology) at James Cook University. As a mature-aged student, she went to India as part of the NCP Mobility Program while studying a Bachelor of Social Work degree. The experience sparked both personal and academic growth, including co-authoring a journal article on cross-cultural learning.

Deeply moved by her experience in India, Maita transitioned to a Bachelor of Arts degree, with a vision to deepen research and partnerships across the Indo-Pacific.

Tim Noel is a data scientist and educator with a strong background in programming and artificial intelligence (AI). He is a Bachelor of Information Technology (Honours) graduate from James Cook University. As part of an NCP scholarship, he spent 18-months in Japan, completing a semester of study at Chuo University, 6-months of Japanese language training, and a 7-month internship.

Following this, Tim remained in Japan to teach English, thereby building his cross-cultural communication and community engagement knowledge. He also taught Python programming and data science courses at his alma mater and taught online lectures for Xiang University in China.

Professionally, he has developed AI systems for road pattern detection with FORUM8 in Tokyo and co-authored research on emotion recognition in speech. He is passionate about building stronger links between Australia and the Indo-Pacific, with a focus on education, technology, and cultural exchange.

Angus has worked with organisations across Australia and Asia, including Frontier Economics in Sydney and Accelerating Asia in Singapore, where he contributed to projects in sustainability, finance, and technology. He aspires to apply economic analysis and innovation to strengthen sustainable growth and geopolitical stability in the Indo-Pacific.

Sophie is 5 years into a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering and a Bachelor of Commerce (Finance) at the University of Queensland. The program featured hands-on workshops in electrical engineering and computing, along with industry site visits that highlighted Taiwan's position as a global leader in semiconductor manufacturing.

Sophie also explored Taiwan's culture through community engagement. The experience has inspired her to undertake more international opportunities and pursue her passion for exploring new cultures and building international relationships. She hopes to use these experiences to contribute to Australia's future engagement with the Indo-Pacific region.

In 2024, Maryam visited Nepal to study healthcare delivery and the integration of complementary medicine in resource-limited settings, as part of the NCP Mobility Program. This experience broadened her perspective on global health and sustainable healthcare accessibility. As the 2026 NCP Alumni Representative for Torrens University, Maryam is dedicated to supporting students' access to NCP programs, encouraging others to engage with the transformative program.

Jorja Schloss is a Bachelor of Psychology (Honours) student at the University of the Sunshine Coast and a 2023 NCP scholar. Jorja spent 18-months in the Indo-Pacific developing cross-cultural experiences in the Republic of Korea and Hong Kong during her NCP scholarship.

During Jorja's semester at Korea University, she deepened her understanding of Korean history, culture and language, cultivating a strong foundation in cross-cultural communication and understanding. She then completed a 6-month internship at Mattel in Hong Kong, where she contributed to human resource initiatives across the Asia-Pacific region.

Jorja's experiences strengthened her interest in mental health and wellbeing, particularly how cultural values shape help-seeking and perspectives on mental health. She plans to pursue a Master of Clinical Psychology, aiming to integrate her NCP experience and research focusing on wellbeing and meaning at work with evidence-based clinical practice that supports culturally responsive care.

Mehret is studying a Bachelor of Business and a Bachelor of Communication at the University of the Sunshine Coast. She participated in a study tour to India in 2025 through the NCP Mobility Program. The tour provided the opportunity to engage with the marketing department of a multinational company, focusing on the growing importance of social media and complex issues around the use of artificial intelligence. The program also studied a grass roots social enterprise supporting the Dabbawalas, a traditional food delivery service in Mumbai.

Mehret gained insights into running a community organisation efficiently, particularly the value of collaboration and a strong organisational structure to achieve a successful business model. She looks forward to exploring innovative uses of social media to promote messaging across the spectrum of age, gender, socio-economic and cultural diversity.

Gabriele is a researcher, educator, and cross-cultural advocate passionate about health, empowerment, and connection across the Indo-Pacific. She holds a Bachelor of Health Science (Nutrition and Exercise) and is a Master of Philosophy candidate at Bond University.

As a 2024 NCP scholar, Raine studied at National Taiwan University. She also undertook Mandarin training, supported Indigenous health with the Social Work and Aboriginal Peoples Councils of Taiwan, and helped organise events at the Australia New Zealand Chamber of Commerce in Taiwan.

Gabriele works as a research assistant at South Australian Health and Medical Institute, contributing to a national neonatal nutrition study, and has co-authored 6 peer-reviewed publications on sleep, mental health, and research skills. In 2025, she was selected for the Healthy Longevity Talent Incubator at the National University of Singapore, earning the best presentation award from Singaporean Parliament.

Judah is a Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Economics student at the University of Adelaide. He completed an 18-month-long stint in Tokyo, Japan as part of the NCP Scholarship Program and gained a unique depth and breadth of experiences in Japan. He undertook a full academic year of exchange at the University of Tokyo, 4-months of full-time Japanese language training, and a further 3-months of full-time internships in Tokyo.

As such, Judah appreciates the practical challenges, realities, and excitement that come with pursuing the NCP experience to its fullest and is passionate about assisting the next generation of NCP students to pursue the NCP experience. Judah looks forward to undertaking an Honours in Economics at Adelaide University.

Luke is a Bachelor of Information Technology (Network and Cybersecurity Systems) graduate from Flinders University. He is passionate about traveling, exploring new cultures, and using technology to improve everyday life. As part of the NCP Mobility Program, he went to India in July 2025, studying at the Rajagiri School of Engineering and Technology in India.

During the program, Luke studied network security, cybersecurity, blockchain technology, ethical hacking, malware analysis, and IoT security, along with real-world industry visits. This experience strengthened his interest in international collaboration on emerging technologies and highlighted the importance of global cooperation in addressing cybersecurity challenges.

Luke hopes to use his technical knowledge and cross-cultural experience to contribute to building secure, inclusive, and innovative digital systems that enhance connectivity across the Indo-Pacific region.

Lara is studying a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Marine and Antarctic Science, majoring in marine biology, at the University of Tasmania. She undertook the NCP Scholarship Program in 2025, studying at the University of the South Pacific in Fiji. She also studied the Fijian language. Her academic and professional interests lie in marine governance and conservation, with a focus on bridging the gap between science and policy to support fishing-dependent communities across the Indo-Pacific.

Lara also interned at Reef Explorer Fiji Ltd in 2025, collaborating with expert coral reef scientists on research into how coral rugosity and morphology affect fish diversity and abundance. She aims to contribute to coral restoration practices and knowledge that address the impacts of climate change. Passionate about connecting people and across cultures, she is eager to strengthen collaboration between Pacific communities and Australia to support sustainable oceans and resilient futures.

Ruth completed the NCP Scholarship Program in 2024 undertaking a semester exchange at the Catholic University of Korea. Ruth gained firsthand experience into how embracing diverse cultural connections can drive meaningful change, foster shared success, and build strong relationships between Australia and the Indo-Pacific.

Ruth also participated in First Nations cultural and diplomacy training and was a delegate to the inaugural Korea-Australia Future Youth Forum. Ruth is committed to using her experiences to support cross-cultural engagement, mentor others, and contribute positively to initiatives that advance international collaboration.

Ruth currently works as an Electorate Officer for the Federal Member for Corio and Minister for Defence. She is passionate about fostering Australia's relationships within the Asia-Pacific region.

Katelyn's experience deepened her interest in Northeast Asian geopolitics and global economic systems, inspiring her to pursue a career that combines her public health expertise with strengthening Australia's regional partnerships.

As a 2026 NCP Alumni Representative, Katelyn is committed to broadening awareness of the program, particularly among underrepresented groups, and fostering meaningful connections in line with the objectives of the NCP. While in Japan, she also participated in ballroom dance lessons, gaining insights into how artistic expression differs between Japanese and Australian contexts.

Emily is currently studying a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Teaching (Secondary) at Avondale University. As a second-generation teacher's daughter, she was raised surrounded by passionate educators. This inspired her to continue their legacy of quality teaching centred around student empowerment. As an Avondale student, she has learnt the joy of service and gained a strong sense of purpose within her Christian faith.

In July 2025, Emily travelled to Tonga to teach for a brief period as part of the NCP Mobility Program. Her time in Tonga opened her mind to the value of culture and helped her develop ways to make education engaging and meaningful for students. She knows that wherever she ends up teaching, the lessons she learned overseas will carry into her classroom practice, reminding her that while education is powerful, helping students see their own value is even more so powerful.

Having studied Indonesian language throughout high school, she has an interest in the people, culture, and legal systems of Indonesia.

Brianna's internship provided hands-on experience in Indonesia's diverse commercial legal landscape, enabling her to form valuable connections with local legal professionals, and allowed her to build lasting friendships both in Indonesia and across Australia.

Brianna currently works as a paralegal and early childhood educator, and volunteers at university, church, and in her community. These roles have improved her organisational skills, adaptability, and ability to engage with people from various backgrounds. As a 2026 Alumni Representative, she looks forward to promoting the NCP and encouraging students to explore immersive Indo-Pacific opportunities and build lasting networks.

Emma is a Bachelor of Health Sciences and Bachelor of Arts student at Deakin University, following her passions in health promotion and Indonesian language. She was a 2024 NCP scholar to Indonesia and Malaysia. Throughout her scholarship Emma completed full-time study at Universitas Gadjah Mada and advanced Indonesian language training in Java, Indonesia.

Emma also interned at two community-based organisations in Yogyakarta and spent her days speaking Indonesian language and educating young children. She is passionate about promoting international education opportunities to fellow university students, especially those studying a second language.

Beatrice is undertaking an Honours program after completing a Bachelor of Psychological Science, at Federation University Australia. The program focuses on cultural and language studies in relation to identity and community health outcomes. As part of the NCP Scholarship Program, she spent 14 months in Japan completing university study components, interning at Mitsubishi, and learning Japanese.

Beatrice also undertook internships at the Psychiatric Hospital Da Nang in Vietnam and HOPE Rehab in Thailand, which deepened her understanding of delivering psychological care across various cultural contexts and highlighted disparities and strengths between Australia and Indo-Pacific countries.

Beatrice now supports young people in Victoria living in out-of-home care and continues to expand her volunteer work in the community. She is passionate about fostering belonging, improving health outcomes and equal access to opportunities, and continuing to strengthen people-to-people connections in the region.


Emily Crick

Emily is an enthusiastic naturalist studying a Bachelor of Science at Federation University Australia. Her passion for nature has led to various stints including an environmental officer internship, volunteer roles, and employment in threatened species protection and recovery within Bunurong and Gunaikurnai Country.

The interconnectedness of human culture and the natural world led Emily to begin advocating for an increased understanding of the importance of interactions between the environment and global society. Emily's NCP experience in Sri Lanka facilitated a greater appreciation of these relationships between developing nations and extraction of resources in a changing climate.

The potential for Australia to learn from Sri Lankan natural resource management and vice-versa was not lost on Emily's trip to the biodiverse island nation. The opportunity has left her with a desire to continue broadening her understanding of natural resource management techniques across the globe.

Hammad Shahin is a Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of International Relations graduate from La Trobe University. He also holds a Diploma of Languages (Indonesian). Hammad completed a 19-month NCP Scholarship Program in Indonesia, participating in two semester exchanges, undertaking intensive language training, and an internship.

Primarily based in Yogyakarta, Bandung, and Bali, Hammad developed deep fluency in Indonesian. His NCP program also enabled him to volunteer with organisations such as the Conference of Australian and Indonesian Youth and the Australia-Indonesia Youth Association. In 2024, he was selected as delegate and male spokesperson for the Australia–Indonesia Youth Exchange Program (AIYEP), and in 2025, appointed AIYEP Coordinator by Value Learning.

Hammad is passionate about increasing the number of Australians studying Indonesian and encouraging more Australian students to choose Indonesia through the NCP Program. He's committed to strengthening Australia–Indonesia relations through language education and youth engagement.

Experiencing these disciplines through an Asian lens broadened Romaan's understanding of global history and deepened her awareness of the stories shaping the region. Beyond the classroom, she immersed herself in Singapore's culture and travelled throughout neighboring Asian countries, sparking a lasting curiosity about the Indo-Pacific.

Romaan aspires to build a career in international intellectual property law, developing fair and inclusive IP systems worldwide. As the first in her family to study law, she is also passionate about empowering students from disadvantaged communities to pursue higher education.

Digby is completing a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours), majoring in Mechanical Engineering at RMIT University. In 2025, he participated in the NCP Mobility Program to Indonesia, collaborating with a local NGO to design and test an internal biodigester reactor energy monitoring system. He also immersed himself in local culture whilst gaining valuable technical and professional experience.

Digby studied a short language course at Padjadjaran University before moving to Jakarta to engage with leading engineering firms and observe industry practices. He then spent 2 weeks with his host organisation, working alongside local engineers to develop a prototype and pilot the biodigester monitoring system at a rural farm site.

Motivated by this experience, Digby is passionate about applying engineering solutions to sustainability challenges and hopes to motivate fellow Australian students to explore the Indo-Pacific through study and work abroad.

Through the NCP Mobility Program, Jemuttai interned at PATTIRO, an Indonesian NGO focused on gender mainstreaming and policy analysis. She also completed the ANU ‘Women in Strategic Policy: Girls Run the World' program funded by the Department of Defence, focusing on the Indo-Pacific defence strategy. Through her role as a 2026 NCP Alumni Representative, she aims to inspire more students to pursue transformative overseas experiences, promote inclusive partnerships across the Indo-Pacific, and encourage active student engagement in regional policy and development issues.

Living on Wurundjeri Country, Mia is studying a Bachelor of Engineering (Product Design) at Swinburne University of Technology. She is passionate about using engineering to create positive social impact, particularly for people with disabilities, a passion inspired by her sister. Her work focuses on the intersection of inclusive design, advanced manufacturing, and sustainability, as she believes that ‘to design for everyone, you need to include everyone.'

In 2024 through the Mobility Program, Mia travelled to the Republic of Korea, where she studied industrial design and engineering at Hongik University in Seoul. She collaborated with students from multiple disciplines to design a 3-wheeled vehicle for any destination, sparking her passion for cross-disciplinary collaboration in Australia. Beyond her studies, Mia is Co-President of the Swinburne Netball Club and enjoys building community through sport.

Eva is in the final year of studying a Bachelor of Philosophy, Politics and Economics at the University of Western Australia. She developed an incredible passion for Australia's relationship with the Pacific following her first year of tertiary study while undertaking a Bachelor of International Relations degree at the Australian National University.

Moving back to Western Australia, Eva's passion and curiosity for the Pacific region led her to apply for the NCP scholarship program. As a 2024 NCP Scholar, Eva undertook a 12-month program in Fiji.

Eva took a semester of Pacific Politics and Human Rights studies at the University of the South Pacific and engaged in one-month of comprehensive indigenous Fijian language and culture studies. She also completed a 6-month internship at the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat, specifically working within the Trade, Economic Policy and Governance & Engagement sectors.
