New Colombo Plan Business Engagement

About

The Australian Government is investing in Australia's future by developing a pipeline of regionally engaged leaders with strong Asia literacy and professional networks. New Colombo Plan (NCP) scholarships support talented young Australians to undertake study, internships and language learning in nearly 40 host locations in the Indo-Pacific for up to 19 months.

Connecting business with Australian talent

NCP facilitates people-to-people links by connecting Australia with the region. Boosting engagement between Australia and the region through two-way educational exchange and deepened economic relationships through key priority sectors outlined in Invested: Australia's Southeast Asia Economic Strategy to 2024 and A New Roadmap for Australia's Economic Engagement with India. Businesses can access the NCP talent pool by:

  • Supporting talented young Australians though an internship program in the Indo-Pacific
  • Exclusive access to the NCP alumni network by sharing job opportunities with talented professionals who have completed an NCP program

What are NCP internships?

Business and organisations in the Indo-Pacific host NCP scholars as interns to develop their work integrated learning skills. Internships are up to six months in duration and can be undertaken full-time or part-time. Scholars gain critical insights into the region's economies, societies, and perspectives, positioning them to contribute effectively to business, industry and the region.

Benefits to hosting an NCP scholar include:

  • access to a talent pool of Australia's future leaders, innovators and entrepreneurs

  • All scholars receive a stipend from the Australian Government as part of their scholarship to undertake the internship

Scholar attributes

NCP scholars are from broad disciplines including business, technology, science, law, health, policy and engineering. They have undertaken a national selection process and demonstrate the following skills:

  • Regionally mobile
