Nepal Aid Program Performance Report 2018-19

Summary of publication

In 2018-19 Australia's aid program provided $29.4 million in official development assistance to Nepal.

This report summarises the performance of Australia's aid program to Nepal against three objectives focused on enterprise and job creation, building governance capacity and supporting human development. During 2018-19 Australia transitioned from direct service delivery to assisting the Government of Nepal (GoN) to deliver the Micro-enterprise Development for Poverty Alleviation (MEDPA) program. MEDPA created employment for 20,059 micro entrepreneurs - 16,732 females (83.5 per cent) and 3,327 males (16.5 per cent). Australia's value-add also includes the provision of quality technical assistance to help Nepal transition to a new federal structure of government, undertaking 35 activities, implemented by 43 local partners which promoted inclusive subnational governance through research, technical assistance and capacity building support. Australia maintains a strong focus on promoting people-to-people linkages through the Australia Awards program, offering 55 long-term scholarship awards in Australia, including 26 in 2018, and 29 in 2019.
