Zambia
Zambia is a landlocked Commonwealth country that gained independence from Britain in October 1964. It was a founding member of both the Southern African Development Community and the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) which is headquartered in Zambia's capital city, Lusaka. Zambia shares borders with Mozambique, Malawi, Zimbabwe, Angola, the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and Tanzania. Zambia has shown steady real GDP economic growth averaging about 6.4 per cent since 2008. Copper remains the country's mainstay, contributing about 70 per cent to export earnings.
Zambia has a population of approximately 14.5 million and is officially a Christian nation, but a wide variety of religious traditions exist. The official language is English while the main local language is Nyanja.
