Supporting Deaf Young Women’s Leadership Journey’s in India
YWCA India partnered with Deaf Women Too, an online initiative to empower the deaf community. This partnership supports deaf young women’s leadership journeys, using the RiseUp! Training model. Through this partnership, five deaf young women were trained as Master Trainers. These Master Trainers trained 100 deaf young women in topics including consent, leadership values, human rights, sexual and reproductive health and rights, sexual and gender-based violence, mental health, economic empowerment, and climate justice.
This picture was taken during the World YWCA RiseUp! Asia Pacific Young Women’s Leadership and Advocacy Initiative training with deaf young women in July 2023 in New Delhi, in collaboration between YWCA of India and DeafWomenToo.
The young women pictured are using Signs to advocate for the thematic issues that matter to them and the deaf community. The following SIGNS have been used in the picture by the Deaf Women Too Team (from left to right the words are) Surbhi: Feminist; Khushboo: Women; Charu: Equal; Kavita: Respect; Misha: Support; Manju: Empowerment.
