Australia’s development program

It takes a village

An Australian NGO Cooperation Program-funded project supporting women to raise village chickens for nutrition in Mozambique has evolved into economic independence for women, who now provide much needed protein for their communities and supply local markets.

They’re now taking orders on WhatsApp and reinvesting their earnings in education, health care, and new ventures.

In Bougainville,  where protein is difficult to source and more than half of children experience stunting, it’s a similar success story.  And in Vanuatu, the ‘Mama’s Chicken’s’ initiative has enjoyed its first income and plans to expand its flock after the local chiefs donated land.
