Australia will enhance Solomon Islands' resilience to shocks through our investments in education, health, gender equality and disability inclusion, and community partnerships.
We will invest in people, communities and links to Australia and the region through:
- Health, education and community resilience: Essential health and education services are improved for all Solomon Islanders, and communities are more resilient.
- Gender equality and disability equity: More women, girls and persons with disability are safer, participate economically and are involved in decision-making.
- Linkages: Enduring relationships between individuals, leaders and institutions strengthen the relationship between Australia and Solomon Islands.
We will maintain our long-term support for education and health in Solomon Islands. We will deliver high-quality inclusive and resilient education infrastructure across Solomon Islands, including water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) facilities, information and communication technology, and sustainable energy options through our bilateral Solomon Islands Australia Partnership for Stronger Education Together and infrastructure programs. We will also strengthen our support for pre-service teacher training and provide long- and short-term training opportunities aligned with Solomon Islands' skills needs, including through our bilateral programs, Australia Awards in Solomon Islands, and the New Colombo Plan.
We will focus our bilateral Solomon Islands Australia Health Partnership program on provincial health service delivery and continue to respond to Solomon Islands Government priorities such as non-communicable diseases, malaria control, medical supplies and health infrastructure, in line with Solomon Islands National Health Strategic Plan 2022 – 2031. Our flagship health infrastructure project, the Naha Birthing and Urban Health Centre in East Honiara will be supplemented by smaller infrastructure projects across the country. We will also strengthen the many clinical partnerships and institutional linkages between Solomon Islands and Australia. Our regional health initiative, Partnerships for a Healthy Region, will extend the reach of our bilateral program through targeted activities to strengthen health security, health service delivery and health systems and we will continue our contributions to regional and global initiatives, including World Health Organisation, Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, the Global Fund, The Advance Universal Health Coverage Multi-Donor Trust Fund and Transformative Agenda.
We will strengthen our support for gender equality and disability inclusion in Solomon Islands. We will work with Solomon Islands Government, key women's organisations and other partners on three key priorities: ending violence against women, women's leadership and decision-making and women's rights and economic empowerment. We will continue to explore ways to strengthen support to People with disabilities Solomon Islands to strengthen their voice and contribution to policy debate in Solomon Islands.
We will support communities across Solomon Islands to improve their living standards through Solomon Islands – Australia Community Partnership grants. We will prioritise small-scale infrastructure projects that benefit disadvantaged groups such as women, youth, people with disability and people from isolated communities. We will help to build strong linkages between Australian and Solomon Islands communities across all our investments, including the Pacific Australia Labour Mobility (PALM) scheme, Pacific Engagement Visa, Australia Awards in Solomon Islands, Australian Volunteers Program, Australian NGO Cooperation Program (ANCP) and Team Up.
