A Transformative Agenda for Women, Adolescents and Youth in the Pacific: Towards Zero Unmet Need for Family Planning

Summary of publication

This is the Program Design Document for the $30 million, four year 'Transformative Agenda for Women, Adolescents and Youth in the Pacific: Towards Zero Unmet Need for Family Planning' which commenced in May 2018. The program aims to expand access to quality sexual and reproductive health services with a focus on reducing unmet need for family planning. It responds to significant constraints in the Pacific in making progress towards universal access to sexual and reproductive health in recent years. Contraceptive Prevalence Rates are stagnant or declining in many countries while, against the global trend, adolescent birth rates are increasing in 10 of the 14 Pacific island countries and territories. The program has three main areas of focus

  1. strengthening demand for modern family planning methods
  2. increasing the supply of services and commodities
  3. improving the enabling environment for the delivery of expanded sexual and reproductive health services by supporting strengthened and well informed public policy development.
