South Asia Food and Nutrition Initiative—Program Document

Summary

This document describes the nature and aims of the South Asia Food and Nutrition Security initiative (SAFANSI). (13pp, 2011)

Description

The South Asia Food and Nutrition Security initiative (SAFANSI) aims to promote food and nutrition security in the region by adopting a multi-sectoral approach in which issues of availability, access and utilisation of food will be addressed with a view to impact nutritional outcomes.

A three-pronged approach will be undertaken to achieve this objective: improved evidence and analysis on the most effective ways to achieve food and nutrition security (FNS) outcomes in South Asia; improved awareness of FNS-related challenges, and advocacy for action, among relevant stakeholders; and strengthened regional and in-country policy and programming capacity to achieve FNS outcomes.
