2009-2010 Progress Report for the Disaster Risk Reduction Policy

Summary

This report provides a review of the progress towards the high level outcomes of the Policy, which contribute to the Policy's goal of 'reduced vulnerability and enhanced resilience of countries and communities to disasters'.

Description

In June 2009 the Australian Government launched Investing in a Safer Future: a Disaster Risk Reduction policy for the Australian aid program. At the end of the first year of policy implementation, AusAID prepared a report to assess the progress of the policy to date.

The 2009-2010 Progress Report on the Disaster Risk Reduction Policy was a desk-based study, coordinated by AusAID's DRR Unit. Input was sought from Australian NGOs and Australian Government partners, Australian NGOs and from across AusAID.

The Progress Report shows that the provision of policy guidance and the implementation of training and tools to support integration are the key achievements of the Policy to date.
