Southeast Asia Strategy and Development (SSD)

The 2024 Mekong-Australia Partnership Annual Report focuses on the progress and achievements of MAP activities within the transition period from MAP Phase One (2020-2024) to Phase 2 (2024-29) in line with key thematic areas.

Partnerships for Infrastructure (P4I) is DFAT’s only Australian-led, region-wide ODA infrastructure program in Southeast Asia. It works with eight partner governments in the region and with ASEAN. 

From April 28 to May 2, the Quad partners convened at the Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies in Honolulu, Hawaii for a Tabletop Exercise, a simulation to launch the Quad Indo-Pacific Logistics Network.

Invested: The Philippines to 2040 - Opportunities and Pathways for Australian Investors outlines the strength of and outlook for the Philippine economy, and describes recent reforms by the Philippines Government to open their economy to foreign investment and improve the ease of doing business.

The Government has established a new Southeast Asia-Australia Government-to-Government Partnerships program (SEAG2G).

Deepening Australia’s engagement with Southeast Asia is a priority. Building on our longstanding development partnerships with the region advances our mutual interests. 

The Australia – Southeast Asia Regional Development Partnership Plan 2024–2028 (DPP) translates into action the development priorities Australia shares with Southeast Asia. It complements Australia’s seven bilateral DPPs with Southeast Asian countries.

The Australian Government’s response to the Senate Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade References Committee report, Opportunities for advancing Australia’s strategic interests through existing regional architecture, was tabled in Parliament on 3 October 2024.

The Southeast Asia Investment Deal Teams Project Development Support (PDS) Fund is an up to AUD 20.9m investment over 2.5 years, supporting implementation of Invested: Australia’s Southeast Asia Economic Strategy to 2040.

Australia's security and prosperity are intimately linked with Southeast Asia. When taken together, Southeast Asia is expected to be the world's fourth largest economy by 2040.
