Australia and Jordan enjoy a warm and increasingly diverse relationship, underpinned by strengthening political ties, longstanding cultural links and a small trade relationship.

Australia and Japan are united by our shared values, including an unwavering commitment to democracy, human rights, free trade and a rules-based international order. Our partnership is fundamental to both countries' strategic and economic interests.

Australia and Jamaica established diplomatic relations in 1974. Australia’s High Commissioner in Port of Spain has non-resident accreditation to Jamaica. Australia also maintains an Honorary Consul in Kingston. Jamaica's High Commissioner to Australia is resident in Tokyo, with an Honorary Consul in Sydney.

Australia and Italy first established diplomatic relations in 1949 and are highly-developed, complementary G20 economies with robust international engagement across shared strategic, economic, and cultural interests.

Australia and Israel share a close relationship with significant people-to-people links and broad commercial engagement. Australia established diplomatic relations with Israel in 1949. The Australian Embassy in Tel Aviv, and the Israeli Embassy in Canberra, were both opened in that year.

Australia has had diplomatic relations with Iraq in various forms since 1935. Australia opened an Embassy in Baghdad in 1976 and Iraq established an Embassy in Canberra in 1995. 

On 26 August 2025, Australia expelled the Iranian Ambassador following an assessment by Australian intelligence services that the Iranian government had covertly directed attacks against Australia's Jewish community. Australia also suspended the operations of our Embassy in Tehran, which we opened in 1968.
