The Australian Government has imposed targeted financial sanctions and travel bans on three persons involved in the downing of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17.

Minister for Foreign Affairs, Senator the Hon Penny Wong announced the appointment of five career public servants to lead Australian posts in Makassar, Athens, India, Bengaluru and Papeete.

In accordance with item 9, regulation 6 of the Autonomous Sanctions Regulations 2011 (Cth) (the Regulations), the Minister for Foreign Affairs (the Minister) has previously designated for targeted financial sanctions, or declared for travel bans (together 'listed'), by legislative instrument.

Work to manufacture and lay the East Micronesia Cable (EMC) is officially underway. The EMC Management Committee members have signed the undersea cable contract with NEC Corporation following a competitive tender. 

Since 2013, the Australian Government has offered resettlement to Australia for certified Afghan locally engaged employees and their direct family members who are at risk of harm as result of their work in support of Australia’s operations in Afghanistan.

The Australian Government will provide an additional $29 million to humanitarian partners to respond to the growing food security crisis and to assist vulnerable people in the Middle East and Africa.

Today marks two year since Australian citizen, Dr Yang Jun, faced a closed trial in Beijing.
