Summary of publication
The “Sexual and Reproductive Health Integration Project” (SRHIP) aims to increase testing and treatment for Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) and Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI) in Papua New Guinea (PNG). The program has also been assisting with integrating separate HIV and sexual health voluntary, confidential counselling (VCCT) and testing sites into primary health care facilities.
SRHIP is being delivered over two phases: 2017 to 2020, and 2020 to December 2024.
The evaluation found that SRHIP is contributing to increased testing and treatment of HIV and STIs and the clinical and administrative capacity of staff. SRHIP was successful in integrating VCCT and testing sites into primary health facilities (a focus of Phase 1), thereby improving service delivery and helping to reduce stigma associated with seeking treatment.
SRHIP is implemented by a consortium of Australian and Papua New Guinea faith-based and civil society organisations: Catholic Church Health Services, Burnet Institute, Australian Society for HIV, Viral Hepatitis and Sexual Health Medicine (ASHM), Igat Hope and Anglicare PNG (Phase 1 only).
