Summary
The Final End of Program evaluation of Australia Awards Cambodia (AAC) was commissioned in July 2025 covering the period from mid-2018 to 2025.
The primary purpose of this evaluation was to provide an assessment of the overall performance of the final phase (2018-26) of the AAC investment and inform development of the next phase of the program. The evaluation was intended to be used as an important data source for DFAT to determine the future direction, scope and structure of the AAC investment. The evaluation’s design recommendations will be applied as feasible in the development and implementation of the new AAC investment (2026-2031).
The evaluation concluded that AAC was achieving its intended outcomes. Contributing to this are high graduation rates (99 per cent) and strong alumni employment (89 per cent within six months) in government, civil society, and private sectors. Alumni have passed on their knowledge and skills to others (75 per cent) and introduced improved practices and innovation in the workplace (84per cent) to contribute to Cambodia’s sustainable development. AAC is strongly aligned with Cambodia’s Pentagonal Strategy Phase 1, DFAT’s Australia-Cambodia Development Partnership Plan 2025-29, and regional priorities including climate resilience and GEDSI. AAC has made progress in inclusion, with women comprising 50 per cent of the awardee cohort. AAC enhances Australia’s visibility and credibility in Cambodia.
