Bangarra Turkish Delight and Paris Nocturne

On 17 and 18 September 2015, Bangarra dance theatre performed at the 2000-seat Zorlu Centre in Istanbul, and then performed to a standing ovation at a packed one-night only performance at the Australian Embassy in Paris.

Bangarra are remarkable cultural ambassadors, with their unique style of authentic storytelling and deeply moving performances.

This was Bangarra's first journey to Turkey, performing in Istanbul as part of the grand finale of DFATs Public Diplomacy 2015 focus country program, held as part of the year of the centenary of the Gallipoli campaign.

Complementing their tour, Bangarra held three workshops, including one with a group of 14 disadvantaged local children aged five to 15, who easily replicated the dance movements, as if they had been doing it their whole lives.

In contrast, the standing-room only performance by Bangarra at the Australian Embassy in Paris, featured vignettes from some of the company's iconic works.

Promoters in France have now expresses their interest in programming a return tour. Programmers from the Musée du quai Branly and the new Musée des Confluences also expressed interest in developing a series of residencies and workshops to coincide with a return tour.
