Public diplomacy

Science diplomacy

Through DFAT's public diplomacy programs, the department promotes not only an international understanding of Australian culture and sport but also of Australia's science, research and innovation capabilities. DFAT has prioritised the development of a science diplomacy strategy, to be prepared in collaboration with the Department of Industry, Innovation and Science and other relevant stakeholders.

The strategy will support and complement the Australian government's strategic direction with regard to International science and education and in particular the National Innovation and Science Agenda.

The strategy will aim to:

  • enhance Australian competitiveness and economic diplomacy in innovation, science and technology
  • promote Australia as a destination for education and training
  • lift our profile as a partner for science centre capacity building, research, collaboration and international exchange
