Project summary
Sector: Science, Technology and Innovation
Country location: Australia, Republic of Korea
Grantee: Curtin University
Project Description
The development of cutting edge smart technologies has not affected the production of oil and gas from seabed facilities offshore North West Shelf of Australia, nor has it affected the productivity of new subsea plant manufactured within Korea. The reason is that the oil and gas industry is conservative, and moves slowly to accept new technologies without proof of improved profit.
This project will utilise the combined output of three top students in the Master of Subsea Engineering at Curtin University with three top students from PNU offshore engineering Master's program, to develop a project which will demonstrate:
- A methodology for retrofitting smart technologies to existing subsea systems, using the power of 'big data' analytics to improve operations, production and overall productivity.
- To introduce new smart technologies in the future manufacture of offshore plant, to improve productivity of both manufacture and subsequent liquids production from that plant.
Key dates:
- Curtin University students travel to Korea, 2017-18, dates to be determined
- Pusan National University students travel to Perth: 2018-19, dates to be determined
Australia-Korea Foundation grant offer: $50,000.00
