Project Description
With the project grant awarded by AKF, the University of South Australia (UniSA) will undertake a project to establish a Korean-Australian Studies Centre (KASC) within the UniSA. The UniSA has recognised Korea's current and growing importance and has identified expanding UniSA's Korean engagement as a high priority area within our international strategy. We have recently (June 2016) been awarded by the Korean Government to host a King Sejong Institute (KSI) at the UniSA. UniSA actively supports key Korea-related conferences including the 9th Korean Studies Association of Australasia Biennial Conference in November 2015 at Adelaide campus and sponsoring the 2015 Association of Asia Pacific Performing Arts Centres Conference held in Tongyeong, Korea. The AKF Grant will be utilised to promote awareness of Australia-Korea relationships and public engagement. The strategies proposed to achieve this include organising a lecture series, symposium and international conference on Korea-Australia relations held both in Australia and Korea. These will certainly provide the needed, long-term infrastructure necessary to further develop Korean-Australian studies and strengthen socio-economic and political relationships between Australia and Korea.
