Grantee: The Shepherd Centre – For Deaf Children
AJF grant amount: $112,150
Project description
The Shepherd Centre and Macquarie University, collaborating with Cochlear and Japanese partners (incl. Health and Global Policy Institute), will deliver a two-day program in Sydney and Canberra to mark 50 years of Australia–Japan relations. It will bring together Japanese and Australian youth with cochlear implants alongside policymakers, surgeons, clinicians and researchers to examine hearing health pathways, access, systems and technology, grounded in both evidence and lived experience. Central to the program will be the perspectives of Australian and Japanese youth, who will share their lived experiences and collaborate to develop recommendations for future policy on access, inclusion, transitions to adulthood and cross border partnerships, positioning young people as future bilateral champions for hearing health reform.
