Project summary
For almost 50 years the National Archives of Australia has cared for a significant collection of records seized from Japanese companies trading in Australia during World War II. The records date from 1899 to 1942 and vividly illustrate economic activity of these companies in Australia in the first half of the 20th century. The rich collection of records includes files and letters, catalogues, fabric sample books, photographs and newspaper cuttings.
They have undergone extensive preservation treatment and with the help and support of the Australia Japan Foundation, the National Archives of Australia will transfer the custody of the records to an appropriate archival institution in Japan where they will be better utilized.
Total project value: $265,000
