Overview
Solomon Islands is a country endowed with natural resources and attractions,
yet despite this, the economy is no larger today than it was ten years
ago. Ethnic tensions and civil unrest have often been blamed for severe
economic regression, but deeper underlying economic and social problems
have been eroding the island nation's economy over a number of years.
The arrival of the Australian-led Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon
Islands has assisted in the restoration of law and order. The next most
pressing challenge is economic recovery. This report seeks to assist with
developing policy to support economic recovery, focusing on how the private
sector can play a greater role in economic growth.
