Australia now 2018 launched on 5 April celebrating Australia in Japan from April to November 2018.
A flagship DFAT public diplomacy initiative, Australia now is delivered annually in a country or region of significance. Recognising our strong ties and people-to-people links with key countries, Australia now brings together our unique cultures and provides a platform to showcase our capabilities, open new markets and promote Australia's innovation, diversity and creative excellence.
Australia now 2018 presents over 40 events celebrating Australian innovation, lifestyle and creativity. The program, announced during Prime Minister Turnbull's visit to Japan in January, will be the largest presentation of contemporary Australia in Japan this decade. The suite of events is designed to raise our profile and promote Australia as a key destination for tourism, study, research and investment ahead of Japan hosting the Rugby World Cup 2019 and Olympics and Paralympics in 2020.
The Australian Embassy in Tokyo launched Australia now 2018 with performances by Yorta Yorta soprano Deborah Cheetham AO and Australian-Japanese artist Sarah Ãlainn, alongside an immersive Australian native 'forest' installation and presentations of premium Australian food, wine and coffee for over 1,500 of Japan's political and corporate leaders in attendance.
