Through Australian eyes

On 23 March Foreign Minister Rudd launched the photographic exhibition, Through Australian Eyes, which recognises the significant contribution of Australian civilians working in Afghanistan
Mr Rudd paid tribute to 28 staff from the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and AusAID.

Australian expertise to assist after natural disasters and conflict

Foreign Minister Kevin Rudd, said the establishment of the Australian Civilian Corps will see a select group of civilian specialists deployed to assist countries recovering and rebuilding after devastation.

Ministerial Meeting with EU Trade Commissioner

At the Australia-EU Ministerial Meeting on Trade held in Sydney, Trade Minister Craig Emerson and European Union Trade Commissioner Karel de Gucht agreed that finalising the Doha Round of global trade liberalisation was a top priority for both Australia and the EU.

Australian consular relief team in Japan

An Australian-led consular relief team has visited evacuation centres in the earthquake and tsunami devastated regions around Sendai in northern Japan. It was the first foreign Government relief team into the region. They are working with Canadian, UK, NZ and US consular officials to locate and identify foreign nationals in the evacuation centres.

Leaders from the Asia-Pacific region and DFAT representatives attended the Advance Women's Leadership Summit in Sydney to mark the centenary of International Women's Day. Many Asia-Pacific delegates were nominated as inspiring women leaders in business, education, science and technology and the media, and received support from the Australian Government to attend the summit.
