The Australia Awards in Indonesia recently provided 25 female fashion entrepreneurs a scholarship to attend a two-week program facilitated by the Queensland University of Technology. The program, International Business Readiness – A Scholarship for the Fashion and Textiles Sector, is designed to empower participants, revamp their business operations, and prepare them to enter the global market.
The entrepreneurs participated in a workshop in Bandung in April 2016, where they were able to talk about their experiences and the challenges of operating in the Indonesian fashion and textile industry. In May they will depart for Sydney, where they will participate in Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia, as well as in workshops and industry visits. These activities will provide participants with an understanding of Australia's business environment, as well as strategies to plan for growth, be export ready, and gain access to finance and capital. They will also have networking and mentoring opportunities, meeting influential female leaders in Australia, including at Australian design schools, clothing and textiles manufacturers and fashion design companies. The participants will return to Indonesia with new ideas and knowledge, and the ability to make a significant contribution to the Indonesian and global fashion and textile industries.
The Australia Awards are prestigious international scholarships, fellowships and short courses funded by the Australian Government. The Awards provide the next generation of global leaders, advocates, and change-makers with an opportunity to undertake study, research, and professional development in Australia. By developing people to people links between Australia, our regional neighbours and the broader international community, the Awards build an engaged and influential global network of ambassadors across the world.
