2015 Rugby World Cup

The 2015 Rugby World Cup provides Australia with an opportunity to support the Wallabies, but to also highlight the important diplomatic and trade relationships we have with many of the countries participating.

  • Australia were the Rugby World Cup Champions in 1991 and 1999.
  • Both the men's and women's rugby sevens teams are looking to make their debut at the 2016 Rio Olympics.
  • George Gregan has played the most Rugby World Cups of any Wallaby–1995, 1999, 2003 and 2007.
  • 25 nations have participated at the Rugby World Cup.
  • The last time Wales beat Australia in a rugby test match was 2008, with Australia on a 10 game streak: Wales 21 - Australia 18.
  • In 2014, 241,577 people played in rugby union competitions and programs in Australia, with 26,221 of those women.
  • In the 2015 Rugby Union World Cup, Australia plays Fiji, Uruguay, England and Wales.
