Implementation of new United Nations Security Council Resolutions
On 19 August 2021, the Charter of the United Nations Legislation Amendment (2021 Measures No. 1) Regulations 2021 were made giving effect to new United Nations Security Council Resolutions (UNSCRs) for the Central African Republic, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the Somalia and the Al-Qaida Sanctions regimes. Accordingly, the Charter of the United Nations (Sanctions— Central African Republic) Regulation 2014, the Charter of the United Nations (Sanctions—Democratic Republic of the Congo) Regulations 2008, the Charter of the United Nations (Sanctions—Al-Qaida) Regulations 2008 and the Charter of the United Nations (Sanctions—Somalia) Regulations 2008 were amended to implement the UNSCR modifying the existing sanctions in each regime. Consequential amendments have also been made to the Charter of the United Nations (Dealing with Assets) Regulations 2008 to ensure that the updated Al-Qaida Regulations are correctly referenced. The Charter of the United Nations (UN Sanction Enforcement Law) Declaration 2008 has also been amended to ensure that the updated Regulations are correctly referenced.
Lebanon
On 30 August 2021, the United Nations Security Council adopted Resolution 2591 extending the mandate of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) until 31 August 2022.
Mali
On 31 August 2021, the United Nations Security Council (UNSCR) adopted Resolution 2590 extending sanction measures imposed on Mali until 31 August 2022. The travel bans and asset freezes imposed through UNSCR 2374 (2017) have been extended until 31 August 2022.
Somalia
On 30 August 2021, the United Nations Security Council adopted Resolution 2592 extending the mandate of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNSOM) until 31 May 2022.
