There are reports DFAT is being falsely impersonated to contact members of the public and request immigration details.

The scam seems legitimate because the caller ID appears as either the DFAT Canberra or State Office(s) phone numbers.

DFAT does not call members of the public requesting personal immigration details. If you receive a call from someone claiming to be from DFAT seeking personal information, please hang up.
